These are the famous ladys slipper orchids. They do not have pseudobulbs but instead form 'growths' around 7 leaves that interlock to create a swollen base. The leaves are usually dark green (sometimes mottled with grey or burgundy) and around 9 - 15 inches long (some get much longer). New flowering spikes emerge from the common centre from each newly ripened 'growth' i.e. it emerges from the centre of the plant.
The stem is typically 12 - 18 inches long but some sequential species can grow several feet long. Flowers last several weeks and some are sequential meaning they open one at a time over weeks and weeks Winter minimum temperature 55F/13C - 60F / 16C
